Home Theater Installation in Brooklyn
Media rooms and dedicated theaters for Brooklyn brownstones, townhouses and loft conversions, with cable hidden in original plaster and board paperwork handled for you. Designed, installed and supported by one team.
Who installs home theaters in Brooklyn?
Nex AV designs and installs home theaters and media rooms across Brooklyn, including Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, Cobble Hill, Williamsburg and DUMBO. Every project starts with a free on-site survey, followed by an itemized proposal with no surprise fees. We prepare the alteration paperwork co-op and condo boards require, and most installations run one to three weeks depending on scope and access.
Three Kinds of Brooklyn Theater
A Brooklyn theater has to fit the building as much as the room. These are the three we install most often.
Brownstone media rooms
A parlor floor or garden level that turns into a cinema, without changing what the room looks like by day.
- In-wall and in-ceiling speakers behind original plaster
- Large-format TV or projector with a hidden screen
- Cable routed between floors, out of sight
- Shades that respect landmarked windows
Loft and condo media rooms
Open-plan spaces in Williamsburg and DUMBO, where floor-to-ceiling glass shapes the whole design.
- Speaker placement planned around open layouts
- Motorized shades for daytime viewing
- Short-throw projector or large display
- Equipment hidden in a closet or cabinet
Dedicated townhouse theaters
A cellar or top floor given over to film, with full light control and seating set to the screen.
- Projector and acoustically transparent screen
- Surround and Dolby Atmos layouts
- Acoustic treatment for shared walls
- Kaleidescape movie library
Brownstones and New Glass Need Different Plans
The neighborhood tells us a lot about the building before we arrive, and the building decides how the theater gets wired.
Brownstones and townhouses
Retrofits here mean multi-floor cable runs, original plaster and landmark restrictions on anything visible from the street. We plan every cable route during the survey and confirm what can be concealed before you commit to anything.
The result is a theater you hear and see only when it is switched on.
Lofts and new condos
Converted buildings wire easily, but open-plan layouts and floor-to-ceiling glass change the design. Speakers have to work without the usual walls, and shading becomes part of the theater rather than an extra.
Condo boards usually want alteration paperwork before work starts, which we prepare.

KaleidescapeSurround sound
KEF and Bang & Olufsen loudspeakers, in-wall and in-ceiling where the room needs them hidden, calibrated for every seat.

Control4 · Josh.aiLighting and shading
Lutron dimming and motorized shades, essential in loft spaces with large windows and in parlor floors with tall ones.

Multi-floor homes often need a network rebuild so 4K streams start fast on every level, not just near the router.

In Brooklyn homes the room choice usually comes down to light, neighbors and how far the cable has to travel.
| Room | Best screen | Sound layout | Light control | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Garden level or cellar | Projector with an acoustically transparent screen | Full surround with Dolby Atmos where ceiling height allows | Easy, few windows | Low ceilings, moisture and ventilation for the equipment |
| Parlor floor | Large-format TV or a screen that drops from the ceiling | In-wall and in-ceiling speakers behind original plaster | Shades fitted to tall windows | Landmark limits on anything visible from the street |
| Open-plan loft | Short-throw projector or large display | Speakers placed around the seating, not the walls | Motorized shades across the glass | Sound spreading through an open space and to neighbors |
| Top floor or bedroom | Large-format TV | Compact surround or a premium sound bar | Blackout shades | Cable runs down to the equipment location |
Co-op and Condo Paperwork, Handled
In Brooklyn buildings the rules shape the project as much as the room does. We prepare all of it as part of the job.

Brooklyn Home Theater Questions
Do you install home theaters in Brooklyn?
Yes. Nex AV designs and installs home theaters and media rooms across Brooklyn, including Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, Cobble Hill, Williamsburg and DUMBO. Our team works out of Midtown Manhattan.
Is the site survey free in Brooklyn?
Yes. Surveys across Brooklyn are free, with no obligation to proceed. We assess cable routes, plaster, power, network and any building rules in person before we send a proposal.
Can you install a theater in a landmarked brownstone?
Yes. Original plaster, limited chase space and landmark restrictions on anything visible from the street are routine for us. We plan cable routes during the survey and confirm what can be concealed before you commit to anything.
Will you handle our co-op or condo board paperwork?
Yes. We prepare the scope documentation, certificates of insurance and contractor paperwork most boards require, and we schedule work around permitted hours and elevator access.
Can a loft with floor-to-ceiling windows work as a theater?
Yes. Motorized shades handle the light, and we place speakers around the seating rather than relying on walls that open-plan lofts often lack. A short-throw projector or large display completes the room.
How long does a Brooklyn home theater installation take?
Most projects run one to three weeks depending on scope and access. Board approvals and building hours can affect the start date, so we plan the schedule with you during the survey.
Can everything run from one remote or by voice?
Yes. With Control4, one "Movie" button can dim the lights, close the shades and start your film. Josh.ai adds natural voice control on top of the same system.
